Having mentioned the website localisation strategy, I'd like to expand the topic and take a closer look at the website localisation process. Of course it may be very easy: just send some string files, provide guidelines (or not), get the files back, implement the new language version on the website and voila.
Business analysis for a website translation
In many cases, entrepreneurs prefer to prepare more materials and information to work with language vendors in a more advanced way. They also chose to work with language specialists so the effect is a part of the global company strategy. So today let’s take a look at some basic elements of a business analysis and take a glimpse into what is useful for further localisation actions.
Products
The question is not only whether to translate the names of your products, or their descriptions as well. It is also a matter of how you want to present them on the foreign market. What aspects do you wish to highlight, what advantages you want to present and how are the similar products (if there are any) doing on the certain area. This is closely related to a business analysis (SWOT, etc.), so it is something worth considering. From a translator’s point of view, it is important to know, if you simply want a translation or a maybe a more advanced localisation
Marketing
Will there be a marketing campaign in Polish for your new market? If so, to ensure terminology and linguistic consistency on your website and on all your promotional materials, it is useful to have your linguists team working with the creative company - as consultants or proofreaders/language verificators. There is also one more option - preparing linguistics guides but this is something we will talk about bit later.
Social media
Do you consider having a local social media strategy? Is XYZ [Company name] POLAND something you want your consumers to see on their social media feeds? If so, there is a good chance you will want your English social media materials translated. Usually it benefits you and your brand a lot, if you decide on that while ordering translation services.
Along with the aforementioned aspects of a business analysis, there come also elements like the translation of landing pages, community management and many more. Everything depends on the approach you take on your products' localisation and what goals you want to achieve. To get what is the best from expanding on the new markets, talking with your local language specialists is helpful. As for Polish, together we can create a wonderful language strategy, which will bring you benefits, such as loyal customers and great brand identity in Poland.
